Each year, Advocate hosts its exclusive Insider Summit in Charleston, SC. This premier IT Leadership conference and peer networking event brings together the industry’s most influential leaders to share their “Insider” perspectives on transforming their IT organization into a disruptive business powerhouse. Together, the participants represent over $1 Billion of IT spend.
Over the course of the invitation-only conference, senior IT leaders participate in engaging panels about some of the most thought-provoking trends in technology business management (TBM), strategy, optimization and transformation to name a few. Attendees gain exposure to leading CIOs and other senior IT executives, build new relationships and learn what is new and prepare for what’s next in the ever-changing world of technology, while gathering valuable first-hand industry insights.
After 20 years in the IT business, Advocate’s co-founders Scott Fogle and Tim Wise saw a real need for senior IT leaders to interact in an intimate setting and discuss the latest trends. In fact, Advocate’s clients were clamoring to hear what their peers were doing to solve IT challenges and innovate.
In the fall of 2014, Advocate hosted its first annual Insider Summit at the Charleston Place Hotel in Charleston, SC to expand clients’ knowledge, expertise and network of colleagues. CenturyLink and Netspoke sponsored the event at which a total of 32 attended, 18 of which were senior IT leaders.
“There wasn’t anything like it and there still isn’t,” explains Tim Wise. “Hosting an event like the Insider Summit demands a beautiful location off the beaten path to encourage one-on-one networking and inspire the trust for knowledge sharing, which can be a challenge in some organizations. Charleston is the perfect city to host the Insider Summit due to its prime costal setting, rich history, well-preserved architecture, distinguished restaurants and hospitable people. I know, because I live in Charleston,” Tim added with a smile. In 2017, Charleston was named by Travel + Leisure magazine as the 2nd best urban destination in the world.
Why Attend the Insider Summit?
In addition to the Summit’s insightful panels, outstanding hotel accommodations, food and drink, Advocate sets time aside for valuable one-on-one connections while at group dinners and activities like a walking tour or charter boat cruise of the Charleston Harbor. Advocate keeps the event fresh by changing the format of the panels, different networking activities and dinner locations. To reinforce networking and sharing insights with peers, Advocate manages a private LinkedIn Insider Summit group, which has over 60 active members who are senior IT leaders.
Advocate prides itself on keeping the event intimate and low-key.
So typically there are approximately 35 senior IT leaders in attendance and two platinum sponsors. Previous sponsors included CenturyLink, Equinix, NTT Communications, Apptio and GTT to name a few. Spouses and partners of attendees are welcome to attend the Summit’s welcome reception, dinners and afterhours activities.
I thought the Insider Summit was excellent. The event is the “gold standard” for how we should spend our marketing dollars. Highly professional, well organized, great content and a fantastic number of high-level exec attendees with which to network.

Apptio was so pleased with its sponsorship and participation at the 2018 Insider Summit. The event exceeded my expectations for an IT insights sharing and networking event. Over the next six months, we’re expecting a high ROI from networking with the Summit attendees.

Advocate's CIO Summit was the most valuable thing I did for myself last year. I passed on the Gartner CIO Symposium to attend the Summit!
